Despite a period of relative stagnation and tranquility in the warzone, there have been rumored sightings of the legendary Caldari pirate and notorious war criminal Sheltark Sykari of late. Sykari, who goes by many names, famously slew Chessur live on stream, which he attributes directly to Chessur’s disappearance from the galaxy. Although capsuleers in EVE Online are technically immortal, once they lose the will to exist, they may effectively die permanently. Such was the presumed case of Sykari.
Sheltark Sykari, aka the SS/Double S/The Giver Of PTSD/The KOL, himself disappeared from the galaxy after years of heated conflict and intense fighting. Although not formally aligned with official Caldari motives at all times by any means, Sykari fought valiantly against Gallente forces in defense of his native system, Okkamon. Sykari’s latest rhetoric implies that his motives are to join the Gallente in Factional Warfare at times, although it’s unclear whether previous alliances on which he’s depended will still hold. Despite his more recent absence from the EVE Online factional war, he has still held onto a sizeable following to his credit, possibly a contributor to his decision to return to fight for his chosen cause once more.
Sykari rose to prominence as a result of widespread success of daring raids using small, inexpensive frigates to subdue enemy forces made up of mostly larger ships. The technique isn’t new or exclusive in any way, as inexpensive, plentifully available frigates are a mainstay in Minmatar doctrines on the other side of Sheltark’s territories.
Changes, both welcome and ill-advised, have been implemented across the cluster since Sykari’s last sighting among the stars. The cluster has seen upheavals, protests, psy ops and media campaigns, some of which may have had certain valid justifications. It’s yet to be seen whether this previous champion of skirmish warfare will still have the chops to compete on the modern lines in unfamiliar and unfriendly skies.
